Bush Defends Rumsfeld As 'A Caring Fellow'. Because he knows no one's really questioning anything he says anymore...
Oil spill in Alaska
Liberal group says people should watch what they say... Chevy Chase delivered a startling rant that the People for the American Way were quick to distance themselves from. Is this spinelessness perhaps part of the reason that the neo-cons continue to wipe up the floor with the democrats, even with an ignorant, "lying fuck" as president?

It also appears that there were two Jesuses. Barabbas, the figure the Bible identifies as a thief and a murderer, was also called Jesus in some versions of the Bible. The name Barabbas translates as "Son of the father". Now, historically, crucifixion was reserved for those guilty of sedition, crimes against the state. Both men were on trial for the same crimes, essentially. And, ancient Hebrew prophecy predicted not one, but two messiahs, a kingly messiah and a priestly messiah, who would be the joint rulers of Jerusalem. Many sources believe that Jesus was the kingly messiah, and some feel that John the Baptist or Jesus' brother James, was the priestly one. At any rate, it appears that at that time, there was a messianic figure more important to the Jewish people than Jesus. And you can note that there was no major backlash when Jesus was crucified. The major uprising happened immediately following the assassination of James, who also had a massive tomb built to house his corpse. Remember, history is always written by the victors, which essentially makes accepted history just propaganda.
Merry Mithrasmas! Yes, turns out that December 25th is not the birthday of the person Christians today refer to as Jesus Christ, which none but the most rabid fans of the religion will dispute, but rather, it is the feast day of the virgin birth of Mithras, witnessed by Shepherds, visited by Magi, who had 12 core followers and sacrificed himself and rose from the dead three days later, 600 or so years before the birth of the figure now known as Jesus Christ! So, Merry M-mas!

And, while I'm promoting stuff, Tom Waits' new CD is the best album I've heard all year, and the best Tom Waits album in a long while. Think "Jockey Full of Bourbon" on overdrive. The initial listen may be frightening, but subsequent spins become beautiful. Brilliant. Stores tend to file this album in "alternative" because they don't know what to do with it. Waits is his own genre.
Read this book! Find out why the Church so rabidly tortured, mutilated and executed so many heretics with their inquisition: Because the church itself was founded by the first heretic, Paul. Christ's divinity was decided by a council's vote some 300 years after his death. Fascinating and interesting book.
Powell: Dissent on Iraq hurts NATO. Powell says that the failure of six NATO countries to legitimize the US' illegal occupation of Iraq hurts the "credibility and the cohesion" of NATO.
Rumsfeld's scrap metal armor...
New US security chief pulls out due to Bernard Kerik's hiring of an illegal nanny, failure to file tax papers and various other infractions and a desire not to "put the president through a difficult confirmation process" and to avoid scandal, which, if you think about it, is an unusual move by a Bush appointee...
